My love of photography was borne out of frustration with being hopeless at drawing – my dad was a hugely talented illustrator throughout my childhood but sadly all my attempts at picking up the mantle failed miserably until he took pity on me and introduced me to one of his 35mm SLR film cameras.
Still life photography seemed to offer the best platform for a slightly OCD youngster with an over-active imagination as you maintain some degree of control over all aspects in the photograph. I’m still particularly fascinated by freezing the beauty of split-second events; an exploding bottle – liquid travelling at speed – a fireball – a splash etc so I try to incorporate as much high speed photography into my work as possible and have over time developed my lighting technique to accommodate most such scenarios.
I’m at my happiest when faced with a new object to photograph and the challenge that lies in transforming it into a highly desirable object; the process of tweaking the lighting setup just so to reveal the texture and shape of the object, enhancing its unique and visually interesting features in order to create inspired, luxurious imagery.
I love the entire creative process from initial brief to glossy end-product, and I embrace the most up-to-date retouching techniques and cgi but always strive to capture as much as possible in camera as there really is no substitute for the real thing.
If I can be of any help realising your next project, please do get in touch and I will be more than happy to discuss any brief in detail or answer any questions you may have.
